Cool Things to Do on a Hot Day in Fort Worth
The livin' isn't so easy in the Fort Worth summertime with temps soaring beyond 90 degrees. While fish may be jumpin' at Eagle Mountain and Benbrook Lakes, it gets hot sitting there waiting for them to bite.
The first thing most people in DFW Texas do is go swimming or to the movies. Sometimes you want to do something different. Here are some cool places to help beat the heat in Fort Worth.
Sundance Square Plaza
Four giant umbrellas provide shade and lighting entertainment in Sundance Square Plaza. On Mondays through Fridays from 2 to 6 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6pm, you can step in — street clothes and all — and play in the fountains. Just be sure to leave your phones behind!
While you cool off at the fountains, you might hear a band, join a yoga class, view an outdoor movie, or enjoy a street fair. Their calendar is loaded with Fort Worth summer events.
Water Parks
Do you want to play in an indoor or outdoor water park? If you want to be out in the sun, head to Hawaiian Falls in Mansfield, NRH20 in North Richland Hills, or Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Arlington for hours of wet fun sliding, swimming, and sunning.
Grapevine's Great Wolf Lodge contains an entire water park indoors with some outdoor activities for when you want fresh air or read by the poolside.
Fort Worth Museums
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History contains 166,000 sq. ft. of exhibits, everything from the DinoLabs and Cattle Raiser's Museum to the Children's Museum and Noble planetarium. Anyone who has seen it all can always go back to check out special exhibits and new IMAX shows.
The city has not one … not two … but three first rate art museums. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Kimbell Art Museum, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth have different exhibits to take you on a trip around the world without leaving town.
Most major cities have an art museum, but they don't have the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Learn the story of the women who helped shape the American West.
Ice Skating
Trade roller blading on the hot asphalt for ice skating on a cooler floor at Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Euless or Ice at The Parks in Arlington. Both places offer classes, private lessons, and special events. This just might be the one place where you need a jacket in the middle of summer.
The Secret Chambers Escape Room
Fort Worth has its own escape rooms where puzzle-solvers enter a themed room and work to figure out how to escape the room using only the resources in that room. And they must do it within a set time. Can you pull it off?
Fort Worth Library
Before you think you have plenty of books already waiting to be read, you can do much more than rent books from the library. They have an entire calendar of Fort Worth summer events to keep people of all ages busy. The calendar lets you sort by event types, age groups, and locations.
We hope these will beat the heat in Fort Worth and make the summertime livin' easy for you. Of course, don't forget about cold treats. You can never go wrong with ice cream, yogurt, slushies, or snow cones! Need more ideas? Check out 13 awesome things to do in DFW Texas.
