5 Kitchen Organization Tips That Will Tame the Mess

It doesn't take much for the kitchen to turn into a messy place. It can even befuddle the most organized person who tries to get this mess under control. The trick is to find a place for everything and to organize larger spaces. Start small when working on these five tips. Conquer No. 1 first. Then move on to the next item. Or begin with the most affordable option or the fastest task.
  1. Sliding drawers
Some kitchen drawers can be quite deep making it hard to see and reach everything. Two words: sliding drawers. You can buy drawer kits at an organizer store or hire a pro to install them. These drawers can be wide and narrow like a standard drawer or you can get deep ones like a wire or wicker basket. You have many options for sliding drawers. There are under-the-sink sliding two-drawer organizers. These would be useful in storing your cleaning tools. You can use a rolling cart with two or three drawers and store it out of the way in the pantry. Or get drawers without rollers for storing your foil, plastic wrap, baggies, and kitchen towels.
  1. Drawer organizers
Those kitchen drawers can be huge. You can throw all your long items into one drawer, all your knives into another, and all your knickknacks in another. It can become unwieldy and harder to find items. That's where drawer organizers can come in handy. Organizer and big box stores have all kinds of organizers. You can get a long silverware organizer for all your sharp things. Utensil trays are great for holding all your long items like ladles, wooden spoons, and rolling pins. For the drawer with things of different sizes, look for an organizer set that features boxes of different shapes and sizes. You can put corncob holders in the small box and measuring spoons in a small-medium box and so on.
  1. Mini-shelves
The pantry where you store your canned goods, cereals, pasta, and other dry goods can have a lot of wasted space. For those tall shelves, get small shelves and you have a double shelf for stacking cans and other shorter items like peanut butter and unopened sauces. Stack cans on top and underneath the mini-shelf. Mini-shelves work well with spices. You could get a spice rack to put on the inside of your pantry door. Or use a multi-tier spice shelf or organizer to stack your spices on the shelf in the pantry. Use canned sodas? Sometimes using the boxes they come in fall apart and the sodas come rolling out of the fridge. Add a beverage can dispenser in your fridge and they'll stay put.
  1. Baskets
The nice thing about using baskets on shelves is that you can pull them out and carry all its items around the house with ease. You won't have an armful of stuff to haul around the house. You can use a mesh basket with handles under the sink to store your cleaning supplies. Then when it comes time to clean up, just grab the basket and go to work. For visible kitchen shelves and the pantry, you might add a little color and style with wicker baskets filled with cloth. That way you can throw the cloth into the washer to keep them clean without having to scrub out the basket. Wicker baskets are available in a variety of colors so you can match your kitchen.
  1. Labeled Jars
Obtain a bunch of jars in the same size or same style with different sizes for storing dry goods. Jars work well for pasta, cereals, snacks, candy, and more. They also keep them fresh since they seal together better than some products' containers do. Your label options are many! You can use a label maker or chalkboard labels. The cool thing about chalkboard labels is their black background with the chalk looks slick. Plus, you can easily erase the label when you use it for something else.
