Interior Design Trends

According to Karl Lagerfeld, “trendy is the last stage before tacky.” Whether you agree with his sentiments or not, it will probably help a lot if you figure out what the upcoming trends are if you want to be up-to-date with what’s going on within the design industry. Fortunately, the experts have spoken. Here’s what some of the brightest, most successful minds in interior design have to say about this year’s trends. Warm Metals According to Gemma Gordon-Duff, a popular interior designer based in London, brass, copper, rose gold, and gold is here to dominate for the rest of the year. These colors are especially appealing in both kitchen and bathroom spaces. She also suggests that you pair them up with raw, natural materials like wood and marble. 70s Themed Designs It looks like the 70s are making a comeback -- and what a time to do it, too! According to our research, Stacy Garcia, a NY-based entrepreneur and hospitality designer, was the first to make this prediction. She claimed that various elements of 70’s furniture design were “bold, raw and globally-fueled, as a response to the changing social and political environment of that time.” Customized Interior Back in 2015, a number of furniture brands started offering customers the option to order personalized furniture with unique specifications. This trend is likely to continue this year as the brands establish themselves firmly in the international market. Tylko, a furniture brand based in Poland, allows their customers to choose not only the color, but also the form and shape of their furniture. ShopFloor, on the other hand, utilizes 3D software and generative algorithms for the creation of customized designs. This includes wall coverings, metal panels, among others. Tailored Materiality Steve Delfino of Teknion is of the opinion that “finish application has always been an important element of workplace design.” According to him, designers this year have a chance to make effective use of both texture and color to create various beautiful work environments. “We’ve seen an increased emphasis on varied materiality throughout the workplace,” Steve claimed, “which will create environments that easily influence productivity and wellness.” Should everything come to pass, it looks like 2016 will continue to be a great year for those looking to spice things up in their home and office. Some things never go out of style but there are some things that never come back either. Strike while the iron is hot and see your home become the best it can be today!
