9 Reasons Why DFW Is Awesome for Millennials

Dallas is the No. 7 hottest destination for Millennials (18- to 35-year-olds) according to Mayflower. They're drawn to urban centers and tend to settle down in the city or a suburb near one. One thing about Dallas-Fort Worth is its many suburban options. Millennials who desire specific traits in a city can find that somewhere in DFW. Whether they want a small town community or a thriving city that's smaller than Dallas, a place somewhere in DFW has it. Here are nine reasons why DFW makes an absolutely great place for Millennial first-time buyers.

  1.  More jobs

By the end of February, DFW had created almost 120k new jobs in 2017 alone as reported by Steve Brown in The Dallas Morning News. The metro area is one of the hottest markets for jobs in the U.S. It also has a below average unemployment rate. Large companies spend millions to relocate to DFW simply because it's easier to do business in Texas.

  1.  Higher than average incomes

A job in Los Angeles or San Francisco that pays $80k may sound like an amazing offer. That same job may have an average salary of $68k in Dallas-Fort Worth. At first glance, California looks like the way to go. But add in the high cost of living and that salary loses luster. JLL's research confirms that incomes in DFW are a little higher than the national average income.

  1.  Nightlife

Dallas features a diversity of nightlife options and locations sure to please millennials in DFW. With many unique neighborhoods, there's no shortage of places to discover. Some of the popular ones include the West End Historic District, Deep Ellum, Knox-Henderson, Lower Greenville, and Bishop Arts. For more options, head to Fort Worth and check out Sundance/Downtown, Cityview, Cultural District, Stockyards, and more.

  1.  Restaurants

You can find top notch restaurants for just about every type of food from sushi and Tex-Mex to barbecue and French. Most cities around the metroplex have a handful of popular, don't-miss restaurants. So no one will have to venture far for a classy meal.

  1.  Sports

You'll find every kind of sport from high school (where do you think Friday night lights got started?) on up to the big leagues. The Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars, and FC Dallas play in Arlington, Dallas, and Frisco. And for those who prefer a smaller venue, Dallas has its share of minor league teams. Love college ball? Plenty of action can be enjoyed at Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Arlington, and University of North Texas, which brings us to the next one.

  1.  Education

Milennials who want to earn higher degrees or learn something new will appreciate the many options at every price range. TCU and SMU are top higher education institutions. UT Southwestern trains future doctors and nurses. Law school options include SMU, Texas A&M, and Texas Wesleyan. We haven't even covered the community colleges, technical schools, and smaller colleges.

  1.  Arts

Residents will stay busy for years with the sheer number of museums, theaters, and music available in Dallas, Fort Worth, and places in between. No matter your interest, you'll find favorites and new things to try including opera, ballet, plays, symphonies, art, sculpture, and music concerts.

  1.  Climate

Yes, it can get darn hot in the area. But nothing like in Austin and Houston where the humidity makes the climate in those cities miserable. DFW gets four seasons and tends to have a shorter or milder winter. Snow can and does make an appearance from time to time. It leaves you wanting more instead of wondering if it'll ever stop snowing.

  1.  City options

Not only do residents have access to a diversity of DFW home builders that cover every style, but also a diversity of cities. Although North Richland Hills and Crowley aren't as big as Dallas or Fort Worth, it has all the things someone wants in a city without the crowds. Cities like Little Elm and Argyle provide a country lifestyle. New residents can choose a place to live based on their interests whether it's sports, award-winning schools, proximity to arts, community size, some, or all of the above. DFW really has something for everyone. Learn more about DFW:
