5 Home Design Trends to Turn Your Master Suite into a Retreat

For many, the master bedroom is a retreat. The place people to relax and reenergize. It's often the one space where you have complete control over the style and environment. Here are 5 home design trends to turn your master suite into a haven.
  1. Turn Closet Chaos into an Organized One
You're happy with the space you have in your closet. But stuff is everywhere. There doesn't seem to be a spot for everything. With these organization tips, you'll be the master of your closet. Don't have drawers or need more? Bring in a dresser or go to an organization store to find drawers you can put in your closet. The store has all sizes and shapes of drawers. A couple of options are bound to fit your closet perfectly. Out of hanging space? Add more closet rods to get more hanging space. You may have a rod for long items like dresses, but don't need that much space. Add another rod below it and you've doubled your hanging space. Most likely, your clothes don't stretch all the way to the floor and you have a few inches of spaces on the bottom of the closet. It's a great place to store a small safe, shoes, dumbbells, and other short or flat items.
  1. Double up on the Sinks
The couple occupying the master bedroom may have different preferences for how to use and arrange the sink. Having two separate sinks and vanities makes this possible and avoids the issue of two people trying to share the sink. It'll be one less stressor to ensure your master suite remains a serene place. If your bathroom has room, put the vanities on opposite ends. But in some cases, they may need to be side-by-side.
  1. Add Flair Up Above
The accent wall is back and it changes up the feel of the bedroom. Imagine resting in bed and looking up to see a decorative ceiling that you love. This could be architecture elements, colorful paint, faux columns or beams for 3D flair, a different color paint on the ceiling than on the walls, and more. One couple added star-like shaped mirrors across the ceiling. Several use decorative lighting that looks like the sun or a mirrored flower with layers. Look around online for fabric ceiling accents to see a few examples of long strips of fabric hanging in different ways. Some use multiple soothing colors that make the room pop without the brightness.
  1. Pick Your Bathing Preference
Some homes have a walk-in shower and standalone bath. Some have only a walk-in shower. Some have a standard tub-shower combo. Picking both turns your bathroom into a spa as you'll always have the tub for days you just want to soak and relax with a book, candles, or soft music.
  1. Hang Pendants
Swap out your basic light, fan light, and lamps with hanging pendants around the bedroom. This way you get your nightstand space back and control the location of the lighting. If you want to read in bed without the brightness of the standard light, the hanging pendant will solve this. You can ask your DFW builder or remodeler about your master suite options. Some builders have a designer on staff who can provide more ideas to turn your master bedroom into a perfect sanctuary.
