The Sandlin Family: Continuing a 60-Year Homebuilding Legacy

J.B. Sandlin started his homebuilding business back in 1957. He took pride in the details, making sure every home provided the quality that the families would depend on—not just the first ones to move in, but for years ahead. Back then, J.B. had a vision of Sandlin Homes growing into something significant, with a name that would symbolize quality homes. More than 60 years later, the Sandlin family is continuing a 60-year homebuilding legacy with the second generation now guiding the business.J.B.’s sons—Mike, Terry, and Scott—grew up in homebuilding. They spent many hours during their youth learning from their father. Mike formed Mike Sandlin Homes shortly after graduating college and built more than 1,500 homes since then. He was named “Builder of the Year” in 1991 by the Fort Worth Association of Builders, and currently holds the position of Director of the Fort Worth Home Builders Association, Life Director of the Texas Association of Home Builders, and Senior Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders. His younger brother, Terry Sandlin, joined the family business a few years after college. His commitment to family and community is also demonstrated in his community outreach for local organizations, including the YMCA, Lions Club, and Crime Stoppers.Scott Sandlin is the youngest of the sons. He knew his homebuilding passion would continue directly from college graduation in 1988 to Sandlin Homes. He earned the Builder of the Year award in 2002 and 2014, and Developer of the Year in 2004. In addition to being a member of several industry boards, Scott serves on the Board of Directors for Children’s Charities of Fort Worth, a cause that has always been close to his heart. Sandlin Homes has been serving the Fort Worth area since 1957. Suzy Sandlin Speight took her career in a different direction, but her husband, Matt Speight, was a natural fit for Sandlin Homes. In addition to earning Builder of the Year honors in 2000, he is also a Director of the National Association of Home Builders, Texas Association of Home Builders, and Greater Fort Worth Homebuilders Association. The Sandlin family continues to look for opportunities to build new homes that reflect J.B.’s mission more than 60 years ago. Each home and neighborhood is as unique as the people that will live there.
