How to Spend Labor Day Weekend in DFW
Looking for Labor Day Events to savor the last bit of summer and make the most of the three-day weekend? Here are a variety of ideas including some outdoors and some indoors. Enjoy your well-deserved break!
Bass Performance Hall
From August 28 to September 2, you can rock to the hilarious "School of Rock" musical at Bass Performance Hall-Maddox-Muse Complex (525 Commerce, Fort Worth, TX 76102-5440). Based on the hit film, the show follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn posing as a substitute teacher in a class of straight-A students. He converts them into a "guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band."
Fort Worth Stockyards National District
Want an authentic western cowboy experience? The place to go is the Fort Worth Stockyards. They have twice-daily cattle drive every day at 11 am and 4 pm. The drive begins on E. Exchange Avenue in front of the Fort Worth Livestock Exchange Building (131 East Exchange Ave., Livestock Exchange Building, Fort Worth, TX 76116) and you can view the livestock behind the building.
At 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, you can watch two hours of Stockyards Championship Rodeo at the Cowtown Coliseum (121 E. Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164). Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show runs in the same place as the rodeo earlier in the day on Saturdays at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
Billy Bob's Texas (2520 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth, TX 76164) has shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can catch the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Kim Wilson on Friday. Saturday's show presents Los Lonely Boys known for their bluesy "Texican rock." On Sunday, Ned LeDoux will play country music and you can bet that he'll play his most requested song "This Cowboy's Hat." Get more awesome things to do at the Fort Worth Stockyards.
