Fun Spring Festivals in Fort Worth

Springtime is a wonderful time of the year in Fort Worth. It's a time of beautiful weather that sends everyone back outside to relish it. Sure, there can be some rainy days, but they tend not to last very long in April and May. And that's why two favorite Fort Worth festivals take place in the spring. Ask folks from Fort Worth about some of their favorite spring memories and you can expect them to mention MAIN ST. Arts Festival, Mayfest, or both. They're family-friendly events that have something for everyone. MAIN ST. Arts Festival http://www.mainstreetartsfest.org/ Located in Downtown Fort Worth, the MAIN ST. Arts Festival hosts 18 blocks of art, music, and food. The festival takes place where Weatherford Street, Houston Street, Commerce Street, and 9th Street all meet. MAIN ST. is a juried arts festival, which is a big deal. A juried show is a competition in which the art is judged by a five-member panel of art professionals. Only the top artists get invited to showcase their work as well as the award-winning artists from the previous years. The festival aims to highlight a diversity of styles and techniques. The festival only accepts one out of every seven artists who apply to showcase their art. It's an amazing opportunity to meet the artists and ask questions about their work. If you like the artist's work and cannot find a piece you want, ask the artist about commissions. The artist may be willing to personalize something for you. Fort Worth Mayfest https://www.mayfest.org/ One of our own remembers going to Fort Worth Mayfest as a kid and making crafts, watching her friends dance on the stage, and seeing bales of hay everywhere. For four days, 33 acres of the bank by the Trinity River is transformed into a giant fiesta filled with live music, food, carnival rides, petting zoo, art and gift market, and paddleboats. Mayfest always occurs the first weekend in May from a Thursday to a Sunday. More than 40 bands from many genres will play on three stages. There will also be more than 40 performing groups on another four stages. These performing groups are dancers representing different genres including tap, ballet, and hip-hop. Kids will stay busy for hours with face painting, bounce houses, and the Midway carnival-like area with rides, games, and entertainment. Visit the Mayfest website for the complete lineup of performers and all the things you can do there. The funds from the event are used to maintain the Trinity River, nearby parks, and community programs. If you'd like more ideas, check out 7 Top Spots for a DFW Staycation. They're great places to go in the spring too.
