Build on Your Lot—A Look at the Process

Building a new-construction home is an incredibly exciting time in a homeowner’s life—but building your own custom home on a piece of land that you’ve personally chosen is on another level of excitement entirely. Krissy Bublitz is the Sales and Marketing Manager for Build on Your Lot at Sandlin Homes, and she’s shared some insight on what our homeowners can expect when beginning their custom home build journey.

With 12 years under her belt at Sandlin Homes and experience working as a Community Sales Manager before stepping into her current role—Krissy knows what our homeowners are looking for.

“My dad built houses all his life, so my brother and I grew up around this industry. When I sold out of my neighborhood [as a Community Sales Manager] and there were no new neighborhoods coming up, they asked if I would be interested in being a part of the Build on Your Lot Department,” Krissy explained. “I love helping buyers take a plan they ‘like’ and turning it into something they ‘love’.”

Finding the perfect location

The great thing about Build on Your Lot is that it allows our customers to fully take control of their new home. If you already own the land you want to build your home on, our team offers complimentary home site evaluations to figure out the perfect placement for your home. If you don’t have land already—no problem. We will work with you to find the perfect location for you to call home throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Customizing your home

Whether you want to build your home using one of our floor plans as a guide or completely dive into the process of creating a fully customized home—our team is excited to work with you every step of the way.

“We really go all out for our Build on Your Lot Buyers!” Krissy said. “They truly are allowed to customize whatever they want. We’ve even allowed them to buy certain items themselves and install if for them [such as] lights, sinks or mirrors.”

Once you have your floor plan picked out (one of ours or a custom design), we will work with you to ensure that all of the structural items are exactly what you want and the exterior elevation is everything you’ve envisioned it would be.

After everything is approved, Krissy explains that the next step is to send the completed plans to the Design Gallery and C&B Electric where you’ll then select all of the colors and low voltage items and choose your exterior colors.

“If there is anything that [our homebuyers] wanted and couldn’t find at either place, we do everything we can to get that item for them,” Krissy said.
