13 Awesome Things to Do in DFW During The Spring

Taking a staycation during Spring Break can be just as fun as traveling to new places. The best part is that you don't have to deal with the expense of hotels, car rentals, or ridesharing. Just stay in the comfort of your own home and travel in your car or take DART. The best part about living in DFW Texas is having many options. Dallas has a wealth of things to do. Fort Worth has its don't-miss spots. And other DFW cities feature special attractions. With all the options available, it may take a couple of Spring Breaks to scratch the surface. Adventure Parks If you love the outdoors, climbing, and ziplining, you'll love Go Ape Plano (5901 Los Rios Blvd Plano, TX 75074) and Trinity Forest Aerial Adventure Park (1820 Dowdy Ferry Rd, Dallas, TX 75217). You do more than zipline. You climb, work your way through obstacles and finish it off with a zip! It's recommended that you book ahead to ensure your spot. Dallas Aquariums Dallas has two aquariums. The Dallas World Aquarium (1801 North Griffin St. Dallas, TX 75202) has a rainforest exhibit with exotic birds. You'll see endangered animals and plants and animals from the Mayan culture. The Children's Aquarium (1462 First Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210) at Fair Park has more than 300 species and thousands of animals at this hands-on museum with interactive activities. Botanic Gardens Located on White Rock Lake, the museum's 66 acres is a life science laboratory. Dallas Arboretum (8525 Garland Road, Dallas, TX 75218) has 19 gardens including the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden contains 150 interactive kid-friendly activities. The oldest botanic garden in Texas contains 110 acres and 22 specialized gardens including a Japanese Garden. The main garden in Fort Worth Botanic Garden (3220 Botanic Garden Boulevard, Fort Worth, TX 76107) is free. Beware the Japanese Garden is located in a different area. Fort Worth Museums You could easily spend a week in Fort Worth its many museums and attractions. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art (3501 Camp Bowie Boulevard Fort Worth, TX 76107-2631) has hundreds of art in its permanent collection and brings in temporary exhibits. Check the website for the current exhibits. Admission is free. This 166,000 square foot facility has a planetarium, IMAX Omni theater, DinoLabs, Fort Worth Children's Museum, and much more. Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (1600 Gendy St., Fort Worth, TX 76107) contains many permanent and special exhibits with something for everyone. Although the permanent collection of the Kimbell Art Museum (3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107) contains around 300 works of art, they consist of masterpieces by many known artists, such as Rembrandt, Goya, Monet, Picasso, Mondrian, and Matisse. The Kimbell displays European, Asian, Precolumbian, and African art as well as temporary exhibitions. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (3200 Darnell Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76107) features more than 2,500 post-World War II art in a diversity of media. It presents a diversity of exhibitions, which you can learn about on the website. You won't find a museum of this kind anywhere. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame (1720 Gendy Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76107) tells the story of more than 200 women who helped shape the American West. The museum is in the Will Rogers Memorial Center, where many events take place in its entertainment, sports, and livestock complex. DFW Texas Zoos You have not one, but two choices in zoos. The Dallas Zoo (650 South R.L. Thornton Freeway (I-35E), Dallas, TX 75203) houses more than 2,000 animals. The zoo has recently built the 2.1-acre Simmons Hippo Outpost where the river horses thrive in an African waterhole habitat with a giant underwater viewing area. The Fort Worth Zoo (1989 Colonial Parkway, Fort Worth, Texas 76110) features over 500 species including all four Great Ape species. It's also only one of seven zoos with bonobos.
