At one time, all the businesses downtown in Dallas locked up tight right at the end of the business day. Slowly but surely, that style of life is changing, and entertainment venues like museums and performing arts centers are causing a chain reaction. Before, one could easily fit everything there is to do in a typical 9-to-5 schedule, now it is impossible to see everything downtown Dallas has to offer in a single day. Mid-Morning Shopping Although downtown lacks a formal grocery store, you can stop by the Dallas Farmers Market where you’ll find a plethora of produce. Along with produce, it also sells meat and other types of food. You can also expect to see local arts and crafts vendors who sell everything from handcrafted home décor items to pieces of furniture. Leisurely Lunching Next, head over to the 5.2 acre space known as Klyde Warren Park. Regularly scheduled events and special programs offer a wide range of activities, from storytelling and fitness groups to movie screenings and live performances. Grab a quick lunch from one of the many food trucks parked around the area every day around noontime. An Artsy Afternoon After you finish lunch, the Dallas Museum of Art is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Admission is free, and along with impressive exhibitions displayed during the year, its collection boasts over 20,000 pieces which date back several thousand years. Sunset Selfies, Sports, and Shows After spending the afternoon in the museums, get back outside for some sightseeing before the sun goes down. Pioneer Plaza has a bronze statue cattle drive, while across the street from the Joule hotel you’ll find a giant eye ball sculpture. Or you might opt to visit the Omni or the Magnolia for a visit with the flying horse. If you visit Dallas between October and June, then make sure you grab tickets for a Mavericks or Stars game at the American Airlines Center. (Sorry, but you will need to visit Arlington to see the Cowboys or the Rangers!) On the other hand you might prefer to take in a show, which means a return trip to the arts district where a host of venues are home to everything from touring Broadway shows to musicals to operas and more.
