Extra-special touches: Our homebuyers’ most popular upgrades
Even your dream home has room for improvement. Our Sandlin Homes customers love all the standard features we include, but we still have requests for those “extras”. We recently asked our design selections specialists about our homebuyers’ most popular upgrades. Here are the most commonly requested, extra-special touches.
#1. 8-foot interior doorsWhen you have a higher ceiling, it makes sense to boost the doors as well. We can adapt any floor plans with 10-foot ceilings on the main level to allow for the taller doors. Increasing the door height by one foot also enhance the spacious feeling, a welcome feature of the open floor plan that is so popular in new homes today.
#2. Tile floor in the showerThe shower is also getting a lot more attention these days. Bathrooms have been trending toward a more relaxing, spa-like experience, and the shower is often the focal point since it’s included in every full bathroom. Rather than the fiberglass floor (also known as the mud pan or shower pan), many Sandlin Homes customers are opting for tile. There are so many options in colors, shapes, sizes, patterns, and grout colors that together we can really create a custom look with very little effort.
#3. Front door upgradeCurb appeal is always a priority. We take pride in the exteriors of the homes we build throughout the DFW metro area. The combination of stone and siding adds elegance to any facade. But our customers aren’t shy in asking for something to give their homes something more unique. There are so many front door styles to choose from, and it’s fascinating how this one change can impact the look of your entryway.
#4. Upgraded light fixturesYou can brighten your home with colors, accents, and furnishings. All of those elements are relatively easy to change, but light fixtures can be more challenging. Think about it. When was the last time you changed a fixture? With this in mind, homebuyers take particular care in choosing the right light fixtures for their homes during the build process. We offer a wide selection in our standard features but we’ll gladly go above and beyond for chandeliers, pendant lights, bathroom lighting, and sconces by upgrading light fixtures.
#5. Wood bonnet vent hoodsSome people like the stainless steel vent hood over their stove, but more people are trending toward upgrading to a wood vent hood. The wood blends in with their cabinets, providing a seamless flow across the kitchen. Or you can use a contrasting wood to transform your functional hood to something truly decorative.
#6. Paneling on the islandThe center island is a mainstay in today’s kitchen. We offer a variety of ways to upgrade this focal point. Paneling is the most requested choice, giving the island the look of furniture, like the classic beauty of beadboard or wainscoting. We work with our homebuyers to create the exact look they’re envisioning for the center island panels.
