In 1947 Major Bill Hendricks of the United States Marine Corps started a toy collection in Los Angeles California. That year, in the days leading up to Christmas, they collected over 5,000 toys and the Toys for Tots program was born.
In 1995 the U.S. Secretary of Defense approved and named the Toys for Tots program as an official activity of the United States Marine Corps and as an official mission of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
This year, Sandlin Homes is once again partnering with this fine organization because it’s hard to find a better organization or charity for our holiday giving. Over 97 cents of every dollar given to the program goes directly to the goal of giving a child a present for Christmas and putting a smile on the face of a young boy or girl during a wonderful time of year.
In fact, Toys for Tots has an entire administrative budget of less than what many of the CEOs at other charities make in salary; thanks to the efforts of the U.S. Marine Corp!
