Many people tune in for the big game of the year no matter which teams are playing. It’s also fun to host a super football party. They tend to be casual with easy and delicious food. The game and the commercials will give everyone plenty of things to talk about.
Whether attendees are into the commercials, halftime show, or the gridiron, here are eight big game party ideas for a fun and memorable party.
- Hold a Cook-off
If the thought of serving mounds of food overwhelms you, go easy on yourself by turning the party into a cook-off. You could have multiple winners by having one winner per category, which could include appetizers, side dish, snacks, and a main dish.
Assign dish categories to ensure the party isn’t filled with a bunch of the same food. Ask guests to let you know what they’re bringing so you can make ballots before game day.
- Set up a Photo Booth
Buy and print props to use in a makeshift photo booth. Props could be football equipment, quote bubbles, fan gear, and team souvenirs. If you want to go the extra mile, you can create a backdrop. One way to do this is to turn plastic tablecloths into curtains. Find tablecloths in the competing teams’ colors, black and white for referees, or green like the football field.
- Test Wits with Trivia
- Play Bingo While Watching Commercials
Here are four printable big game commercial bingo cards. You can use candy as bingo chips. Whenever you see or hear any of the words mentioned in a commercial, place a candy on the spot. Here’s another set of bingo cards.
- Run a Game Day Prediction Prop Pool
Print Your Brackets Prop Pool contains 25 questions worth 1, 2, or 3 points. The questions will have contestants predicting the outcome, such as whether the first score will be a touchdown and if there will be more than two interceptions in the game.
Just make copies of the sheet to pass out before the start of the big game. This web page also has a printable odds sheet and a word scramble.
- Set out Coloring Pages
What better way than to feel like a kid again with football-themed coloring pages? Coloring is cool for adults. Place coloring pages and Crayons around the room where people hang out. They can color while they chat and watch the game.
- Rate the Commercials
Here are free printables to rate the commercials during the big game. These are a snap to make. You can buy Popsicle sticks at a hobby store. Use tape or glue to attach the sticks to the signs. Each stick could hold to signs so each guest would only need three signs instead of six. Or you can omit two to use four signs on two sticks.
- Decorate Using Team Colors
You don’t have to go buy football-themed party supplies. There’s a lot you can do based on the two teams playing in the big game. Get balloons in the two teams’ colors. Decorate one table for one team and the other for the second team. Look for candy in the team’s colors to add to the tables.
Some party stores may have black and white cupcake liners that you can fill with candy. Or you can get liners in the teams’ colors. You can do the same with straws or look for black and white straws.
Using these eight ideas, you’ll make sure that football and non-football fans have an equally good time. If you’d like to surprise your guests with party favors, buy brown bags. Use a black marker or white stickers to draw a line with short lines to resemble the laces on a football. Fill the bags with team-colored or football-shaped candy.
